A transformative experience for a Teenage Art Class
Creating a mural for the East Kilbride Art Centre celebrating 70 years as a New Town was a transformative experience for our teenage art class. It was a journey that not only paid homage to our town's rich history but also allowed us to leave a mark on its future (This Mural has subsequently been painted over).
The process began with research and exploration, delving into the archives to unearth the stories and faces that shaped East Kilbride over seven decades.

The Teenage Art Class, a group of young, eager minds, was tasked with bringing this history to life through our creative expressions. Together, we brainstormed ideas and themes, ranging from the town's industrial heritage to its modern, vibrant community. As we sketched and painted, we felt a deep sense of connection with the town's past and present, each brushstroke a tribute to the individuals and milestones that defined East Kilbride.

Our mural, a testament to our collective artistic vision, adorned the walls of the Art Centre, inviting visitors to take a visual journey through the town's evolution. As we stood in front of our creation, we were reminded that art is not just about personal expression; it is also a powerful means to connect with our roots and contribute to the story of our town. This project was a beautiful amalgamation of creativity, history, and community spirit, and it serves as a proud symbol of East Kilbride's enduring legacy.
