Original Art, Live Caricatures & a Fantastic Weekend
What a fantastic weekend at East Kilbride Comic Con!
Over Saturday and Sunday, I had the pleasure of exhibiting my artwork and meeting a fantastic mix of comic fans, families, fellow creatives and visitors. It was a busy and enjoyable couple of days, with plenty to see and do and a brilliant range of vendors bringing something different to the event.
For me, it was also a chance to showcase some brand-new original artwork, create live cartoons and caricatures, and offer visitors the opportunity to take home some of my prints.
Two Brand-New Original Paintings
One of the highlights of my stand was showcasing two brand-new pieces of original art.
I always enjoy bringing new work to events because it gives people the opportunity to see paintings that haven't previously been exhibited. There's something particularly exciting about putting a fresh piece of artwork in front of an audience for the first time and seeing the reaction it gets.
Comic Cons are perhaps best known for fan art, characters and costumes, but I love bringing a mixture of my work along — from original paintings and prints to cartoons, caricatures and my own Arttoon creations.
Live Cartoons & Caricatures
Of course, there was plenty of drawing happening throughout the weekend!
Live cartoons and caricatures are always a big part of my events, and East Kilbride Comic Con provided plenty of opportunities to get the pencils moving.
There's something very different about creating artwork live in front of someone compared with working away in the studio. A caricature has to be produced relatively quickly, while still capturing the personality and recognisable features of the person sitting in front of you. And there's always that great moment when the drawing is finished and you turn it around to show them for the first time.
Plenty of Art Prints
Alongside the original artwork and live drawing, I also had a wide selection of art prints available.
Prints are a great way for people to take home a piece of artwork without needing the budget or wall space required for an original painting. I always try to bring a varied selection to events, covering different subjects and styles. For visitors who have followed my work online, these events are also a great opportunity to see the artwork in person rather than simply viewing it on a screen.
A Fantastic Range of Vendors
One of the things that made East Kilbride Comic Con such an enjoyable weekend was the variety of vendors and exhibitors. There was a great mixture of artwork, collectibles, merchandise and other creative businesses, alongside plenty of fun things to see and do throughout the event. That's what I enjoy about Comic Cons — you never quite know what you're going to discover when you walk around the venue. From one stand to the next there can be completely different artwork, characters, costumes, collectibles and creative ideas.
Meeting Visitors & Fellow Creatives
Events like East Kilbride Comic Con aren't just about selling artwork.
They're also about meeting people.
It's always great to chat to visitors about my work, hear which characters and films they love, talk about art and photography, and meet other artists, vendors and exhibitors. For an artist, getting work out of the studio and in front of a live audience is incredibly valuable. It creates opportunities to meet new people, introduce them to your work and hopefully encourage them to follow the journey afterwards.
Another Great Weekend for Arttoon
East Kilbride Comic Con was a fantastic two-day event and another opportunity to showcase what I do as an artist.
From the two new original paintings to live cartoons and caricatures, art prints and plenty of conversations with visitors, there was something happening throughout the weekend.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along, visited my stand, bought artwork or prints, had a caricature drawn, or simply stopped for a chat.
Your support makes these events worthwhile and helps me keep creating new artwork and developing the Arttoon brand.
